Bud Thomsen

Director & Host

Bud Thomsen has spent over 30 years in the Omaha area watching families navigate some of their most difficult transitions. As an Associate Broker with Nebraska Realty and a Senior Real Estate Specialist (SRES), he's helped baby boomers and their parents through downsizing, estate sales, and the complex real estate issues that come with aging. His probate specialization means he's guided families through property transfers during grief, confusion, and legal complexity—the moments when people need someone who can stay calm and explain what's actually happening.

Clients describe Bud as "the eye of the storm"—the person who brings clarity when everything else feels chaotic. That reputation led him to found Savvy Seniors Empowerment Seminars in Omaha, recognizing that seniors and their families need more than real estate advice. They need straight information about financial planning, healthcare decisions, legal protections, and life transitions before crisis forces their hand.

Savvy Seniors in Omaha exists because Bud saw too many families making major decisions under pressure without understanding their options. The seminars provide actionable information from professionals who've actually worked in these fields, not theoretical advice from people who've only read about it.

Jane Thomsen

Registrant

Jane Thomsen has spent over 30 years in Omaha's Millard community, observing how families evolve with age. As a REALTOR® with Nebraska Realty, she and her husband Bud assist baby boomers and their parents in navigating downsizing, estate transitions, and the emotional challenge of leaving homes filled with memories. The real estate transaction is often the easiest part—it's everything else that overwhelms.

Jane quickly realized seniors need more than a house listing. They require guidance on Medicare, estate planning, finding reliable contractors for home modifications, and preparing for long-term care before emergencies arise. As Registrant of Savvy Seniors Empowerment Seminars, she ensures Omaha's senior community gets what they need from the seminars.

Jane noticed families often make major life decisions in crisis, without time to consider options or consequences. Savvy Seniors equips families with the knowledge they need before emergencies hit, empowering them to act thoughtfully.

Jane tackles senior transitions with the same practical approach she applies to real estate—clear information, honest conversation, and a focus on real solutions.

Paul Cummings

Logistics Director

Paul Cummings has been working Omaha real estate since 2001, but his expertise goes well beyond buying and selling homes. Born and raised in Omaha, Paul built his career handling the operational complexity most realtors never see—foreclosure prevention, corporate relocations, inventory management for large corporations and government agencies, and training other realtors on systems that actually work. Starting in Bellevue working primarily with Air Force families, he learned how to coordinate complicated moves under tight timelines with people who had zero margin for error.

That operational background makes Paul the right person to handle logistics for Savvy Seniors Empowerment Seminars in Omaha. Running educational events for seniors requires more than booking a room—it's coordinating speakers, managing materials, ensuring accessibility, handling registration, and making sure every detail works so attendees can focus on the information they came for, not the problems that shouldn't exist.

Paul approaches logistics the way he approaches real estate: thoroughly, professionally, and with the understanding that people want things to work without drama. He knows Omaha, he knows how to manage moving parts, and he makes sure the seminars run the way they're supposed to.

Joe Erdkamp

Community Relations Director

Joe Erdkamp spent years teaching people how to push past what they thought was possible. As an All-American discus thrower at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and two-time Olympic Trials competitor, he learned what high-level performance actually requires. After coaching track and field at UNO and teaching Physical Education at every level from elementary through college, he shifted focus to helping people who needed a different kind of support—seniors and people with disabilities navigating systems that weren't built with them in mind.

As a certified personal trainer and community liaison, Joe worked directly with seniors on fitness, mobility, and accessing resources. That hands-on experience taught him that most seniors don't need someone to talk at them about aging—they need someone who listens, connects them with practical help, and treats them like capable adults making informed decisions.

As Community Relations Director for Savvy Seniors Empowerment Seminars in Omaha, Joe connects the seminars with Omaha's senior community, senior centers, healthcare networks, and community organizations. His background in education means he knows how to communicate complex information clearly. His background working with seniors means he knows the difference between what sounds good in a presentation and what actually helps.

Joe brings the same direct, honest approach to community outreach that he brought to coaching—focus on what works, skip the BS, and respect the people you're working with.
